Russ Meller, Ph.D., professor of logistics and
entrepreneurship in the University of Arkansas's industrial engineering

CELDi Student Researcher, Yazhe Feng, at Virginia Tech, wins the IIE 2011 RAS Student Paper Contest. RAS (Railway Applications Section), a subdivision of INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences), sponsored the student research paper contest on analytics and fact-based decision making in railway applications. CELDi researchers win another NSF Fundamental Research award. The National Science Foundation awarded $196,336 to University of Missouri, Columbia for support of the project "Logistics of Biomass Based Energy: Positioning CELDi as the Leading Enabler of Biomass Logistics." This project is under the direction of CELDi researchers Wooseung Jang, Cerry M. Klein, Harold E. Garrett, James S. Noble, Michael L. Cook. (July 2011)

CELDi project at Medical Center Hospital to save $250,000/year and improve service to patients. CELDi researchers at Texas Tech, Jennifer Farris and Tim Matis designed a three-phase approach for solving the backlog problem in the emergency room at the regional hospital in Odessa, Texas resulting in significant savings to the hospital and patients. CELDi welcomes new memberships this summer at Virginia Tech, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and at Lehigh, Mallinckrodt‐Baker Chemical Company.
Two CELDi universities win NSF Research Experience for Teachers (RET) awards for 2010. University of Arkansas and Oklahoma State University will continue working with teachers and students in the region through the popular education programs, IE Challenge and Network Flow Model Models in Transportation and Logistics. University of Missouri also received funding for an undergraduate student through the Research Experience for Undergraduates program.
CELDi IAB awards $150,000 in research funding for 2010 Center Designated Research Projects. (April 2010) Projects funded include:

Oklahoma teacher and CELDi RET recipient, Mark Thomas, recognized as Oklahoma Outstanding Teacher by the Mathematical Association of America. (May 2010)
CELDi IAB recognized student researcher Na Deng, University of Missouri, with "Best Poster Award" at the April 2010 IAB meeting in Atlanta, GA. for her poster "Inventory Replenishment Strategy Using International Shipment Consolidation."
